Lip Shape Analyzer

What the Lip Shape Analyzer does

Lipstick shopping gets a lot easier once you know your actual lip shape instead of guessing from a swatch on someone else's face. Upload a close-up photo of your lips and this tool identifies whether they're full, thin, wide, heart-shaped, or somewhere in between, reads how your upper and lower lip balance against each other, and looks at your cupid's bow definition. From there it gives you specific lipstick, liner, and application tips built around what your lips actually look like, not a generic "universal" recommendation.

Input: A tight, moody close-up of a young woman's face turned slightly toward the camera, with long light-brown hair falling across the right side of her face and covering part of her mouth. The lips are closed and bare or lightly tinted, the color grading is warm and grainy like film, and the background is a blurred red and blue interior.

  • Fullness70%
  • Cupid's bow definition45%
  • Upper to lower balance60%

Lip shape: Full with a soft, rounded outline, and a lower lip noticeably fuller than the upper. Only the left half of the mouth is fully visible; hair covers the right corner.

Fullness: Above average on the lower lip, moderate on the upper.

Cupid's bow: Present but soft, with low, rounded peaks rather than a sharp V. The film grain and warm cast blur the edge of the upper lip line, so this read is less certain.

Upper vs. lower balance: Roughly 1 to 1.5 in favor of the lower lip, a common and easy ratio to work with.

Lipstick pick: Rosy nudes, dusty rose and soft berry suit a full lower lip. Satin or a sheer balm keeps the soft shape; a gloss concentrated in the center of the lower lip adds even more fullness if that's the goal.

Liner tip: To balance the upper lip, line just at (or a hair outside) the natural upper edge and sharpen the bow slightly with a liner one shade deeper than the lipstick.

Photo note: For a more reliable read, retake the photo straight on, with hair tucked back and both mouth corners visible in neutral light.

How it works

  1. 1

    Take a close-up, front-facing photo

Get close enough that your lips fill a good part of the frame, in even light, with your mouth relaxed and closed or gently open.

  2. 2

    Upload the photo

A bare-lip or lightly balmed photo gives the most accurate read; heavy lipstick or liner can obscure your natural lip line.

  3. 3

Add a note if it helps

Mention a specific goal in the details box, like "everyday look" or "bold color for a night out," to steer the recommendations toward something you'd actually wear.

  4. 4

    Read your result

You get your lip shape, a read on fullness and upper-to-lower balance, cupid's bow notes, and lipstick and liner suggestions matched to the shape.

Tips for better results

  • Use natural or soft indoor light rather than harsh overhead lighting, which can flatten lip definition.
  • Photograph bare or lightly balmed lips for the most accurate shape read; heavy lipstick can hide your natural lip line.
  • Keep your mouth relaxed rather than pursed or stretched into a smile, which can distort the shape.
  • Crop the photo close to your mouth so lips aren't a small detail in a wider face shot.
  • Mention your skin undertone in the details box if you want lipstick suggestions matched more closely to your coloring.

Limitations

This is a visual read of what shows in your photo, not a clinical or cosmetic-industry measurement, and it's meant to help with makeup choices, not as a statement about attractiveness or a fixed category you're locked into. Lighting, lip products, camera angle, and even a relaxed versus tense expression can shift the read, so treat the result as a helpful starting point rather than an exact, unchanging classification.

Frequently asked questions

Why did I get a different lip shape than I expected?

Lighting, angle, and expression all affect how lip shape reads in a photo. A slightly different crop or a more relaxed mouth in the photo can shift the result toward a more accurate read.

Do I need bare lips for an accurate result?

Bare or lightly balmed lips give the clearest read since heavy lipstick or liner can obscure your natural lip line and cupid's bow definition.

Can it tell me what lip filler results might look like?

No, this only analyzes your current lip shape from a photo. It isn't a cosmetic procedure simulator and shouldn't be used to predict filler or surgical outcomes; talk to a licensed provider for that.

What lipstick finish works best for thin lips?

As a rule of thumb, satin and gloss finishes reflect light and make thinner lips look fuller, while flat mattes in very dark shades can make them look smaller. The analyzer then adjusts that for your photo, such as where to place liner if your upper lip is much thinner than the lower.

Can I upload a photo of someone else's lips to compare?

Yes, you can run separate photos to compare shapes and recommendations, which is useful if you and a friend want to compare lipstick suggestions side by side.

Is a fuller or thinner lip shape better?

Neither. The tool describes your natural shape and matches products to it rather than ranking shapes against each other.
